My name is Phoebe, I’m 26 years old and born and raised in London. For the past 4 years I have worked in a variety of different support roles for St Mungo’s - a homelessness charity and housing association based in London. The support I was able to provide to a diverse group of adults from all over the globe, required highly adaptive and crystal clear communication skills. I was also able to gain some experience of teaching spoken and written English during my time there. This experience has given me a passion for making the teaching of English my career going forward. My teaching experience began when I volunteered at a local primary school as a teaching assistant, where I was able to assist in a range of tasks, from supervising group and classroom activities, to giving 1:1 learning support. I found my experience to be both challenging and rewarding, and I firmly established a passion towards teaching and ensuring every child, regardless of their individual circumstances or background, has equal opportunities and plenty of support throughout their life. With a focus on understanding what a student's own expectations are. I have recently completed a 168 hour TEFL course which covered all the TEFL essentials; from English grammar to classroom management, lesson planning, using resources effectively, how to teach learners of different ages and abilities, and a whole lot more. I value the importance of taking time to get to know each student, and understanding what their own personal expectations and objectives are. With this, I strive to design and tailor my lessons to target their needs and interests. I am a firm believer that using outside resources can create a more realistic environment for students, making use of current newspapers, magazines, TV, and so on. I plan to approach every class with a fun and happy mindset, and will make discussion central to my classes, with a focus on the objectives and interests discovered in their needs assessment. My ultimate goal is to make each class unforgettable, and to encourage students to find happiness in learning a new skill, personal growth, and lightbulb moments.
