I achieved an A* in A Level Sociology, A in History, and B in English Literature. I have recently finished studying a BA History with honours degree at the University of Manchester and I am expecting to graduate with a minimum of an upper 2:1.

Présentation

Hello! My name is mollie and I am a third-year History student at the University of Manchester. I have recently completed my dissertation on a comparison of the British Union of Fascists, Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany but I enjoy learning about many aspects of modern history and medieval history too!

My interests include travelling, architecture and photography. I studied English Literature, Sociology and History at A Level. I thoroughly enjoyed these subjects at school, as they offer interesting content that can be fun to learn and applied to exams.

As a student myself, I hope to pass on the knowledge I have acquired and be a relatable figure. One of the areas in which I will be able to help my students improve is exam technique and preparation. I feel that understanding and putting together a logical approach and style to exam questions then leaves you to learn the content and everything else falls into place.

I also believe that I can help students build up a set of transferable skills that can be applied to many of their subjects. For example, their style of writing, inferencing ability, source and language analysis, judicious approach to applying knowledge and quotations, vocabulary and comprehension.

Additionally, I feel that I can help students by designing activities and structuring their lessons to suit their individual needs. To prepare lessons, I consider both the student's concerns, anything I feel they need help with and skills of particular importance to their subjects. This combination equips the student with knowledge and confidence in their subject.

A lesson may be structured around an exam question or theme. For example, the student might have a creative writing task at school and would like to prepare for this. Therefore, I might structure the lesson with activities suited to this. For example, a smaller activity may revise language techniques useful for creative writing, whilst the main activity will put smaller activities into practice, producing a piece of writing, which we will review together.

In other lessons, we may discuss and answer exam questions or review and improve a piece of work the student has produced at school. I will help students achieve their goals by structuring lessons so that they build a path to their goals.

I measure progress in the small but important steps students make. A small struggle, that we work on together, can be instrumental to the bigger picture. Progress can be measured by the student both feeling and evidencing greater confidence in their subject, as well as me checking in regularly with them. An important area to encourage is the student's input. Sometimes students feel shy speaking up, but when they do, even for the smallest thing, it deserves huge encouragement. We learn so much more from discussing ideas and asking questions!
