Mes qualifications

I have a diverse educational background, which includes a PhD in Interactive Music from the University of West London, where I focused on the creation of interactive music systems. Although I discontinued the program in the 2019-2020 academic year, I gained valuable experience and knowledge during my time there. In addition to my PhD studies, I earned an MSc in Sound Design from the University of Edinburgh in 2018, which provided me with a strong foundation in sound design theory and practice. Prior to this, I completed an NCF Award in Radio, Level 1 from JAG Training in London, where I gained hands-on experience in radio production and broadcasting.

My undergraduate degree is a BA in Design, Visual Communication from the School of Design at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, which I completed in 2012. This degree provided me with a strong foundation in design principles and visual communication, which I have been able to apply to my work in sound design and music.

Overall, my education has provided me with a broad range of skills and knowledge that I believe will be valuable in my role as a tutor. I look forward to sharing my passion for learning and helping students achieve their academic goals.

Présentation

Hi there, my name is Kenneth Wong. You can also just call me Ken. I've been teaching English and music since 2021, primarily to primary students from Hong Kong. Additionally, I've guided a master student as his supervisor in the UK finish his thesis in 2020.

My teaching method involves customised notes made on Google Docs for each student. I believe that a lesson should be a mixture of open-ended discussion on a topic, followed by listening and reading related content on platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, or other websites. Sometimes, I like to incorporate games like Minecraft or Roblox, or a scenario-based writing task to reinforce the topic we just learned. I encourage students to pursue their passions and guide them to learn online so they can develop their self-learning abilities.

One of my specialties is helping students build up their self-learning routine by encouraging them to explore topics of their interest. Being bilingual myself, I excel in helping Hong Kong students pick up English tenses quickly and explain the subtle differences when they want to say something in English while thinking in Cantonese. I also have a DBS check done in 2021, and hold an MSc in Sound Design from the University of Edinburgh, and a Ph.D. dropout from the University of West London.

Teaching is a passion of mine, and I take inspiration from my mum and godmother, who are primary maths and secondary English teachers, respectively. I believe that teaching is a great way to learn, and designing new content for lessons has helped me grow as an individual. I am a fast and curious learner, and I enjoy exploring technologies and am a strong visual and sonic communicator because I studied graphic design and practice sound design and music production. I want to inspire my students to explore topics that interest them and learn for their own purposes. I do not force-feed information; instead, I teach my students how to learn.

I always have a plan B for each part of the lesson, and I make sure that each student has some options to choose from. I also regularly check in with my students to understand their interests and see if I can incorporate them into my lessons. Playing games together is a popular activity and is a great way to encourage students to speak English naturally. My ultimate goal is to teach my students how to learn themselves, stay curious, and interested in the things they love. I want them to be able to structure their thoughts and think about how they learn so that organizing content for completing school tasks will be easy for them.

Most importantly, I want my students to enjoy my lessons and leave feeling happy and fulfilled.
