Mes qualifications

I qualified as a teacher in 2006 with a PGCE in secondary education. I knew that I wanted to share my love of English with the younger generation, but more than that, I wanted a career that would inspire pupils to attend my lessons. Prior to my PGCE, I undertook my BA (Hons) and Masters in English Literature which allowed me to spend endless hours exploring my love of authors and texts. I also hold a 220 Hour Specialist TEFL qualification, which I obtained in 2022. Travel has always remained a great passion of mine and I have managed to successfully combine this with teaching in Germany, New Zealand and Cambodia, all experiences which have left an indelible mark on my career.

Présentation

Having taught English for over sixteen years, I have always embraced the opportunity to work in different educational environments, both nationally and internationally, and have taught in two of the top secondary schools in England. I am entirely proficient at teaching to different examination requirements, including the IGCSE and IB.

The moral compass of young people is naturally calibrated by a valued educational journey and I am a strong believer that English opens individuals’ minds to great possibilities, stretching and challenging opinion with confidence and clarity.

More than anything, I seek to foster a love of learning. I have always made it a priority to deliver my subject with enthusiasm and sensitivity, and I pride myself on establishing meaningful relationships with students. Fairness, patience, flexibility and approachability are essential for a student to flourish and this means a personalised approach to learning that takes into account the student's learning needs and their wellbeing. I have a wealth of experience in creating resources that are differentiated for these needs and take every opportunity to offer meaningful feedback that allows the student to progress forwards. This is when great things happen and goals become ever more achievable.

My teaching mantra will always be that the student comes first. I am known for being calm, patient and enthusiastic and I understand the anxiety that many students face when confronted with the curriculum. My job is to reduce this stress, encourage confidence to blossom and allow students to thrive, preparing them for a world that awaits them with its many opportunities.
